Ballon d'Or odds: Ronaldo and Messi favourites for 2017 award, but can outside bet win it?
CRISTIANO RONALDO and Lionel Messi are set to battle it out once more for the Ballon d'Or, but could any outside bet spoil the party and scoop the 2017 award?
France Football’s Ballon d’Or award is presented to the best player competing in Europe, and considered one of the highest accolades an individual can achieve in the sport.
The 2017 ceremony takes place on Thursday, with Messi looking for his sixth award while Ronaldo is one behind and chasing his fifth gong.
However the Real Madrid superstar picked up the trophy last year, and also won FIFA’s best player award in October.
A group of 173 journalists from around the world will vote on the prize this year, and while Ronaldo and Messi are favourites it would be foolish to discount some of the other stars who made the 30-man shortlist.
Take a look through the gallery above to see who is favourite to win the Ballon d’Or 2017.
