PHAGWARA: Two under trials escaped from Phagwara Sub Jail on Thursday morning after throwing tea a jail guard's face. The two had been recently lodged here.
It is learnt that Amandeep Kumar, a resident of village Bhabiana and Rajwinder Singh of village Samrai were having tea and they threw it at a jail guard's face when he was just entering the jail gate and escaped. Sources said that a third under trial was caught by the jail staff while the two managed to flee. The incident happened at around 7.15 AM.
Amandeep was brought here on November 24 after he was booked by Phagwara police in a case of voluntarily causing hurt while Rajwinder was arrested by GRP under Arms Act after recovering a knife from him.
Phagwara SP Parminder Singh Bhandal, who also rushed to the spot, said that they would register the case after getting communication from jail authorities. He said that they had already sounded alert to nab the fleeing under trials. He also held that element of negligence by the jail staff could not be ruled out.
