Man, mother sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for dowry death

A fast-track today sentenced a 25-year-old man and his mother to 10-year imprisonment for burning his wife to death over dowry in neighbouring Shamli district in 2015.

Fast-track judge Ombir Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on the convicts -- Mohit and his mother Basmati.


According to the prosecution lawyer, Punam was burnt to death by her husband and in-laws when she failed to meet their dowry demand at Lachmanpura village under Jhinjhana police station in Shamli district in western on May 15, 2015, two years after her marriage.
