Chandigarh: Eyeing investment from Dubai, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has tried to sell its tycoons the retail policy coming out next month to allow 24x7 stores in the state.

In his meeting with the emirate's business leaders in Dubai on Tuesday, Khattar referred to the great potential for these stores, given the increasing middle-class population and improved standards of living in Haryana and other northern states. The Landmark, NMC, Al Maya, Diplomats Summit, UK, Hakan Agro, and NIFTEM groups are keen to invest in Haryana's retail, rice-processing, export, and healthcare sectors.

At the Dubai airport, the Indian consul general received the CM and his high-level delegation of industry minister Vipul Goel, chief secretary D S Dhesi, and industry secretary Sudhir Rajpal. The CM offered Haryana's skilled labour to Landmark Group and pitched for a buyer-supplier meet in January, where small suppliers can exhibit their products. "Another meeting with major suppliers can also be arranged," Khattar said.

Second largest non-food retail company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Landmark Group owns popular retail brands Lifestyle, Max, and Splash. The company has a sourcing office in Gurgaon and a hospitality division called Home Centre. Healthcare giant NMC has the option of building a medi-city in Panchkula, besides new hospitals in Rewari, Mahendragarh, Fatehabad, Dadri, Sirsa, Panipat, and Kaithal districts. The company runs 40 healthcare facilities in the UAE and seven hospitals in India, five of which are acquired and two green field (foreign direct investment). It's trying for the possible acquisition of Goldfield College and SRS Hospital.

Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation (Hafed) is keen to market its Haryana Fresh brand products through the supermarkets of the Al Maya group. At the preliminary discussion, group director Kamal Vachani promised to lead a delegation of UAE exporters to Haryana to explore the possibility of sourcing products from small manufacturers in Haryana.

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar also pitched Haryana as investment destination to more than 200 people of Indian origin who came to the Indian consulate general event in Dubai. On Wednesday, ex-CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda said he will judge the success of Khattar's foreign tours by the quantum of investment he is able to bring. "He has promised a lot of foreign investment and summits after his foreign tours in these three years but failed to bring more than Rs 100 crore," he said. "Most of the groups who signed MoU (memorandums of understanding) with him backed out. We'll wait and watch." State Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhary had also criticised Khattar over his foreign visits
