LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Pinning hopes

| | Rampur

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Long live the king” (December 6). Impartially speaking, it appears premature to draw an analogy between Sonia Gandhi as Queen Victoria and Rahul Gandhi as Edward as the latter has not formally taken over as president of the grand old party as yet, although it remains just a fait accompli now as the Congress scion is the only candidate in fray and the date for filing the nominations for the Congress presidency has expired.

It is true that Rahul Gandhi is entrusted with a Herculean task of adopting a pragmatic strategy ahead of the 2019 election so that he might prove himself worth the salt. Of late, he has succeeded in striking a chord with the common people. In fact, States of Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, which are going to polls early next year, may come across as an electoral semi-final between the Congress, the allies and the BJP. With Rahul Gandhi at the helm, common men have pinned hopes on him. However, it is a long way to go as the saying goes Rome was not built in a day.
