Ludhiana: Two days after a group of transgenders agitated outside the Focal Point police station and allegedly manhandled a manager of an export firm following the death of a company worker, the Moti Nagar police booked 14 transgenders for the attack.

A FIR has been lodged under Sections 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) against Sonia, Rakesh, Gudia, Kanchan, Kanda, Payal, Butti, Anchal, Khushi, Priya, Prem Shankar, Jyoti, Naina and Krishna.

The transgenders knew the deceased, Om Prakash, and had joined his relatives in lodging a protest against police apathy.

The case was registered on the complaint of Jasmeet Singh, manager, Export Trade Private Limited, on late Tuesday evening.

On Monday, kin of a labourer Om Prakash, who had died in the factory of Export Trade, along with a group of transgenders had staged a protest for more than one hour outside the Focal Point police station.

The agitators had accused the police of inaction in the matter. On Sunday, Om Prakash had complained of chest pain while working in the Focal Point factory. According to his relatives, he had suffered cardiac arrest. Though his co-workers had called the factory owner, he did not turn up at the factory and Om Prakash did not get timely treatment and died.

Following the incident, the kin had reached on spot and prevented the police to take the body to a hospital. Later, cops pacified the protesters, assuring them of summoning the factory owner at the police station on Monday, the relatives had claimed.

On Monday morning, the kin reached the police station, but the factory owner did not turn up. Following this the kin and a group of transgender started the protest. Later when manager Jasmeet Singh reached the spot, he was allegedly manhandled by them.

Vijay Kumar, investigating officer, Moti Nagar police station, said the complainant alleged that the agitators misbehaved with him when he reached the Focal Point police station. They also manhandled him and removed his turban.
