‘Skill on Wheels' launched in Karnataka

| | New Delhi

In a bid to boost skill development in Karnataka, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in association with ApnaDesh, an NGO, has launched a 'Skill on Wheels' programme.

'Skill on Wheels' would be the first of its kind outreach targeting 5 lakh rural youth at taluka levels through a state-of-the-art hi-tech vehicle that would travel across Karnataka.

The event for the launch of the scheme in Mysuru was marked with the 'National Youth Conference' on skill development organised at JSS College of Arts, Science & Commerce and attended by among others Jagatguru Shivrathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Ananth Kumar, Union Minister for Parliamentary affairs,  Anantkumar Hegde, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Pratap Simha, MP Mysuru.

Launching the programme, Kumar said, "I congratulate Hegde and his Ministry for this new idea — Ideapreneurs. We have heard entrepreneurs but Ideapreneurs is a new word. Idepreneurship will lead to entrepreneurship which will not only empower the Ideapreneurs but also others as it will enable them become employers. I am confident that Hegde will take this "Skill on Wheels" to 100 places in Karnataka."

Motivating the youth during the launch, Hegde said, "I advise all of you to dream as dreaming about your goal will give you the motivation to achieve. Today it's an irony to witness people with certain set of skills and qualifications doing something which is totally opposite their skill and interests. Majority of people pick up right skills on the job instead of being job ready. Mere school and college certificate won't help you in achieving your goals. Therefore, I urge you all to become Ideapreneurs and our future Entrepreneurs."

Later in the day while interacting with industry experts, institutional heads and some young entrepreneurs, the MoS said, "We want to reach out to the last mile in rural Karnataka and take this scheme to the ground. Possibility of opening a skill university in Karnataka based on a PPP model can also be explored."
