Chandigarh: Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari has said the Centre was ready to give a second thought to the decision of declaring tractors as commercial vehicles. His assurance came after the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) delegation led by Abhay Singh Chautala met him in Delhi on Wednesday.
The Union minister also asked the INLD not to stage sit-ins in protest of the 'arbitrary toll policy of the National Highways Authority of India' because he was willing to revisit the policy since he had been made aware of the problems. He also invited the INLD to hold a meeting with him and his officers on December 12, 2017 and discuss the matter in detail.
Accordingly, the INLD has decided to visit Delhi again on the said date to apprise Gadkari of the problems and the nature of damage it would do to the rural economy unless the decisions were reversed.
In view of the assurance given by the minister, the INLD has decided to send a team to Delhi to discuss the subject with the Minister and his officials and also to respond to the appeal of the minister by postponing its proposed 'dharnas' in protest of the toll policy.
