Pune: Maharashtra principal secretary (information technology) SVR Srinivas on Wednesday said the rush for Aadhaar card update would ease once more centres become operational in the district.

After a meeting with district collector Saurabh Rao, Srinivas told TOI that he was aware of the fact that some machines were not functioning and all the centres were witnessing huge rush of applicants.

He said, "We had a detailed discussion with the collector and have already given permission to start 40-50 more centres. The machines will be repaired at local level. Nearly 100 machines will be repaired and put into operation."

Collector Rao told TOI that the number of of the enrolment centres will increase by 25 in the first phase and by another 25 subsequently.

He said senior citizens, people with disabilities and workers such as carpenters, masons and blacksmiths, who were facing problems with fingerprint scanning, will get the option of either thumb impression of iris imaging — whichever is clearer — for the update and linking of Aadhar cards.

For fading the fingerprints, the slips generated during the enrolment process will be checked by the nodal officer, who will send it to UIDAI with all verifications for the generation of the Aadhaar numbers.
