Magnetic Island in Australia is all geared up to provide a bustling vacation period as enthusiastic backpackers and families are looking for getaways to flock to the tropical hotspot.
Bridget Woods, Townsville Enterprise Ltd tourism and events Manager explained that Magnetic Island tourism operators had shown powerful business statistics in the second half of 2017.
“One of the reasons is the TigerAir flights from Melbourne have provided extra visitors,” she said.
“When you have operators picking up the phone and saying they’ve had lots of visitors from Melbourne in particular, that’s a great sign.”
Ms Woods stated that the island hotels have already started reporting strong booking figures for the holiday period.
“The school holidays are a peak time for visitors on Maggie,” she said.
“In the summer we know a lot of the visitors come from our drive zone — Mackay, Charters Towers, Cairns — and also locals from Townsville.”
Ms Woods explained that at the end of January TEL will be introducing a campaign with Tourism and Events Queensland aiming Brisbane, Sydney, the Gold Coast, Darwin and Papua New Guinea.
