KOCHI: Panampilly Nagar, one of the city's most prestigious addresses, will be maintained with its charm intact as the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has been entrusted with the maintenance of the area's 'Streetscape' for five years, according to the MoU signed in this regard on Tuesday. The KMRL, the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) and the City Corporation are signatories to the MoU.
The MoU is meant for arriving at a consensus on the modalities for maintaining the 'Streetscape' and forming a committee consisting of the representatives of the parties concerned and will be valid for five years. Since KMRL is authorised to maintain the 'Streetscape', it will be given a free hand to generate revenue from it and appropriate the same for meeting maintenance costs.
The panel to be set up for monitoring and coordinating the routine maintenance of the 'Streetscape' will have two nominees each from the parties hereto and one nominee agreed upon by both GCDA and KMRL. The Corporation nominees will be the two councillors of the wards in which the 'Streetscape' walkway is situated. One nominee each from the Panampilly Nagar Residents' Association and Panampilly Nagar South Residents' Association will be made permanent invitees to the panel.
