PMQs: May shames Corbyn with leaflet with Labour's FALSE pledge to WRITE OFF student debt

THERESA MAY was greeted with applause during PMQs after she mocked Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn over his false promise to write off student debt.

waved Labour's "misleading" leaflets in the air during a heated PMQs and demanded Jeremy Corbyn apologised for false claims over student tuition fees.

The stinging slap down began during PMQs when said the Government is "unable" to solve important issues facing Britain".

Mrs May hit back and said: “Can I say to the right honourable gentleman, week in and week out he comes to this house making promises that he knows he can’t deliver? And they keep doing it. At the election he told student they would write off their student debt. Then he said ‘I did not commit to write off the debt’.

“But what are the Labour Party doing, they are putting round leaflets which say Labour will cancel existing student debt.

Theresa May demanded Jeremy Corbyn apologised for misleading Labour Party leaflets

"It’s time the right honourable gentleman apologised for grossly misleading Labour leaflets."

Jeremy Corbyn said he would already have axed tuition fees for new students if he had become Prime Minister.

Mr Corbyn previously said he would “deal” with the issue of student debt during the election campaign by promising to scrap £9,000 a year tuition fees.

He said: “I don’t see why those that had the historical misfortune to be at university during the £9,000 period should be burdened excessively compared to those that went before or those that come after.

“I will deal with it.”

But Mr Corbyn has claimed in July that he had never promised to scrap existing student debt. He told The Independent: “What I said was we would deal with it by trying to reduce the burden.

"We never said we would completely abolish it.”
