Kota: The three assailants, who had fired and critically wounded an undertrial in Bundi court premises on Tuesday, are yet to be identified. Meanwhile, police admitted that the firing was a result of gang war. The locals suspect the goons to be from Himachal Pradesh.

An undertrial Rakesh Singh from Panipat in Haryana, who was currently lodged in Bundi Central Jail was on Tuesday shot at by unidentified assailants while he was being taken to ADJ court No-2. He sustained three bullet injuries—in head, back and one of the hands—was rushed to Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS) Hospital.

None of the three assailants have been arrested so far, said Samandar Singh Champawat, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Bundi. "Probe is underway and details of investigation cannot be shared right now," the DSP said.

According to sources, the three accused youths purchased an Apache motorbike from a youth in Bundi around three days ago. The police have detained three youths for interrogation.

The undertrial Rakesh Singh was involved in a land dispute in Dablana police station area of Bundi district and was booked under various sections of IPC for attempt to murder, abduction and others in Dablana police station in 2015. Rakesh is wanted in a criminal case in Haryana too. The Haryana police arrested him two months ago. The Bundi police later brought him from Haryana on a production warrant. He was produced before a court in Hindoli that sent him to Bundi jail.

Fear has gripped the local people following the firing incident as police has at all corners failed to build confidence and trust among the people. The accused of the recent past crimes including taking away the ATM machine containing around 5 lakhs from the heart of the city are still at large and police has not even been able to get a clue of the accused in these crimes. The lawyers in Bundi court were heard discussing and fearing amid such loose security measures in court premises, any judicial official or some lawyer on any day can easily be targeted by the criminals in the court premises. Notably, no CCTV camera was installed in court premises despite there being the district collector office, police control room and several other district level offices in the premises.
