Railway locomotive No 2311 suddenly caught fire yesterday while it was being tested in a shed near the railway station in the town yesterday.

A team of fire fighters from the district Fire Service rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. High officials of the railway visited the spot.

Railway Locomotive Running Shed Foreman Mosharraf Hossain said the fire was caused due to a fault in the electrical wiring. “Most of the electricity cables of the locomotive were damaged due to the fire,” he said, adding that the locomotive will be sent to Parbatipur station locomotive shed for repairs.

Mosharraf said the locomotive entered the station loco shed on Monday night and it was checked and rechecked yesterday. It caught fire during the test, he added.

Lalmonirhat Railway Division Mechanical Engineer Ashish Kumar said he asked for sending the locomotive to Parabtipur locomotive shed for repair.
