On the eve of 25th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, State has been put on high alert by the director general of police, Sulkhan Singh, who also issued an advisory for all the district police chiefs. He also directed closure of all crackers shops while a close vigil should be maintained in all the liquor and arms shops. Instructions have been also given to district magistrates to impose prohibitory orders if necessary.
Issuing an alert across the State including communally-sensitive places on the eve of anniversary of the demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya here on Tuesday, directions have been given to deploy adequate force in all the places of worship, railway stations, bus terminals and markets and other places. Special security measures has been already in place in the twin-cities of Ayodhya and Faizabad. Security has been put on top gear in Varanasi and Mathura - two other religiously important places having disputed places of worship - and sensitive districts including Aligarh, Lucknow, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Meerut and Kanpur. A large number of police personnel, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed to ensure security.
DGP Sulkhan Singh had directed to divide the districts into zones and sectors and magistrates and circle officers (police) should be given charge of these areas to maintain peace. Besides other instructions, Singh also directed to ensure peace during procession and other functions to be held to mark death anniversary `Pari-Nirvan Diwas’ of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, also falling along with Babri demolition on Wednesday.
