GURUGRAM: Sports accessory major Adidas has moved a city court against two of its Nagpur-based franchisees, alleging fraud.

The company alleged that the two firms refused to make payments repeatedly, and also that their bank guarantee turned out to be fake. The company had approached police in August last year, but when they did not register an FIR, it filed a petition in the court of chief judicial magistrate.

According to the complaint, the company had in 2005 allotted two franchisees in Nagpur.

The owners of both are business partners. The company had signed a new agreement with them on December 5, 2012, for a three year-term starting January 1, 2013. The franchisees had given a bank guarantee of Rs 5 lakh each. "Despite repeated requests and several visits by our representatives, the accused did not clear outstanding dues. After this, the company on January 30, 2015 issued a legal notice to the accused and requested them to submit Form C and the penalty arising thereupon on account of non-submission of Form C," the complaint stated.

On Monday, based on the court's order, an FIR was registered against the accused.

"We've registered the case and are investigating the matter," said inspector Sudhir Kumar, station house officer, Sector 40 police station.
