Calangute: Calangute police on Wednesday arrested two persons and filed a case against a restaurant owner after cannabis (ganja) was found growing in his property at Arradi, Candolim.

"We are waiting to record the statement of the property owner," said Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi, who added that this was a 'first-of-its-kind' case.

Dalvi said that a tip-off was received that some persons at Arradi were growing a ganja plant, following which they raided the spot and nabbed two persons, Susanta Sahoo, 26, and Pravesh Salam, 20. The room the two were staying in was also raided, and some hookahs were found there.

The duo told the raiding party that the property belonged to Lanny Fialho.

The police said that they are looking to question the property owner, who, by evening, was learnt to be moving for anticipatory bail.

A source said that the police suspect that more cannabis plants have been grown which were hidden with a cover. "The plants were two meters high while the top portion of the plants were covered with a net," a source said.

Calangute police have registered an offence under section 20(a)(I) of the NDPS Act. The seized ganja is worth Rs 10 lakh, PI Dalvi said. Senior police officials including SP North Chandan Choudhary and SDPO N Albuquerque are supervising the investigations.
