Seven naxalites, including five women, were gunned down in an encounter with police in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, sources said.
According to sources, the encounter took place on Wednesday morning, about 15 km of Zinganoor outpost in Sironcha tehsil of Gadchiroli, when a squad of state police was on an anti-Naxal operation, sources said.
Police launched the operation against the naxalites around midnight, following which the encounter took place, sources said.
The patrolling team was cordoning off the forest patch near Kalled, which borders neighbouring Chhattisgarh, when the exchange of fire took place between the two sides, sources said.
At least two Naxals were also injured, sources said, adding that the outlaws fled after the encounter.
