BHUBANESWAR: A two-day literature festival will begin from January 13 in the city. Around 100 litterateurs from different parts of the country will be invited to grace the occasion and discuss a host of issues related to literature.
The festival is organised by a city-based trust 'Vagdevi Literature Trust' for the first time. There will be three poetry reading sessions including a multi-lingual poetry session. One poetry session will be dedicated to women poets.
On the inaugural day, discussions will be held on three topics- 'Women through ages', 'Tribal folklores and legends' and 'Translation: Opportunities and challenges'. On the second day, panel discussions will be held on 'Me and my story', 'Childhood and literature' and 'Literature in the age of globalization'.
Besides the literary discussions, live painting on tribal art, Pattachitra, a thematic play and photographic exhibition on feminism and Hindustan classical music concert will be held during the two-day festival to add colour to the event.
Dr Mamata Tripathy, director of the function, said the festival will be dedicated to noted Odia author and freedom fighter Binod Kanungo. Noted poet Sitakant Mahapatra and novelist Pratibha Ray are advisors of the festival.
She said authors from Delhi, West Bengal, Assam and other parts of the country will attend the festival. "We have decided to invite reputed authors to join with us. We will also invite literature students of different universities to attend the event and participate in the poetry reading session," she added.
Tripathy said the festival will honour one scholar with 'Vagdevi Literature Award' and a young talent as 'Vagdevi Srijani Award'.
