Jalandhar: The families of four Punjabi youths gone missing after reaching Bahamas en route the US and had last called home on August 2, have requested Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and Union external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to help them get definitive information about their wards.
They also alleged the two travel agents, who had been booked on their complaints, were still out of the police net.
Speaking to media here on Tuesday, the parents of these youths led by Subedar Shamsher Singh of the 22nd Battalion of the Sikh Regiment, said the travel agents did not tell them anything clearly that they were still out of police net despite having been booked by the district Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur police a month ago.
"We request the Punjab CM and the Union minister of external affairs to intervene and get information through official channels about our missing sons," the parents said.
Subedar Shamsher has also written a letter to the Punjab chief minister mentioning that travel agent Sukhwinder Singh of Mehndipur village, who was Punjab Police ASI, had assured that he would legally send his son Inderjeet Singh to the US and had demanded Rs 35 lakh from them. "But he used the illegal route and never told us about it. We realized only after the youths got stranded there," he said.
Shamsher hails from Abdullapur village near Mukerian in the Hoshiarpur district. Jarnail Singh and his wife Satpal Kaur of Pureeka village, whose son Sarabjeet Singh is also among the missing youths, were also present. Sarabjeet's friend Gurpreet Singh said the police had been telling them that Sukhwinder was absconding.
Pargat Singh of Mana Talwandi, whose son Navdeep Singh, and his relative Mohinder Singh of Bhandal Dona, whose son Jaspreet Singh, are also among the missing youths said their travel agent Ranjit Singh Rana of Khassa village was yet to be arrested by the Kapurthala police. They said the accused was working in the Punjab State Power Supply Corporation (PSPCL) and had not attended his office either.
The youths were flown to Moscow in the first week of June this year and then they were taken to Bahamas from where they last spoke to their families on August 2. They told their families that they were about to start their journey to the US. Their families have not heard from them since.
