YADGIR:A man from Khanapur village of Shahapur taluk (Yadgir district) took the body of his wife on a bike to Yadgir district government hospital covering 12 km on Monday night and after placing it on a bed at the hospital, escaped from the place, police sources from Wadagera Police Station said.

The deceased has been identified as Shantamma (28).Police sources said that the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital and near the hospital caught the man bringing Shantamma’s body on the bike and putting the body on the bed and disappearing from the hospital. The man registered his name as Venkatesh and his wife’s name as Shantamma.According to sources, Venkatesh and Shantamma belonging to different castes were working in a garment factory at Bengaluru. They started having an affair.

They came to Yadgir about five months back and entered into wedlock by registering their marriage at registrar’s office at Yadgir. Later they started living in Venkatesh’s native Khanapur.
Police sources said that as per their investigation, Shantamma was urging Venkatesh to return to Bengaluru to work at the garment factory but Venkatesh wanted to stay at Khanapur to look after his aged father.
They used to quarrel for this reason as well as for some other domestic issues daily.

On Monday also they quarrelled over the same issue.Police said there were two versions. After the quarrel, Shantamma hanged herself.Venkatesh mght have thought she had fallen unconscious and brought her to the hospital and put her body on the bed and disappeared, fearing that Shantamma’s relatives might kill him.Another version is that Venkatesh killed his wife Shantamma by hanging her and later brought the body to the hospital.

The doctors, who later examined the  body, declared that Shantamma was brought dead.Wadagera police visited Khanapur and found that Venkatesh’s house was locked. Sources in the Wadagera Police station said that Shantamma’s  relatives have arrived at Wadagera police station and are yet to register a complaint.
