2 peddlers arrested with Rs 8 crore heroin

Ludhiana: Khanna police arrested two drug peddlers after 1.5kg heroin was recovered from their possession at a checkpoint near Doraha canal bridge on Tuesday.

Gurpreet Singh of Gurusar village, Bathinda, and Lakhvir Singh of Barnala were coming from Delhi side when the police stopped their car around 12.30pm. "On checking, a packet of heroin, wrapped in a black polybag, was recovered from the dashboard. The seizure is worth about Rs 8 crore in international market. The two were going towards Jalandhar to deliver the contraband," said Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal.

The cops are also checking the peddlers' antecedents. "Following their interrogation, we will look for their accomplices," he added.


A few hours later, police arrested three men with 75 cartons of illicit liquor.


The SSP said, "A pick-up van was stopped at a checkpoint near Rajwant Hospital on GT Road. Its occupants Gurcharan Singh of Azad Nagar and Arvind Singh of Ludhiana city were arrested after 50 cartons of illicit liquor were found in the vehicle."


Later in the day, police arrested Puneet Kumar of GTB Market, Khanna, with 25 cartons of illicit liquor.
