Chelsea news: Tiemoue Bakayoko doubts revealed by Frank Lampard after Atletico Madrid draw

CHELSEA legend Frank Lampard has expressed doubts about Tiemoue Bakayoko after the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid last night.

Chelsea news: Tiemoue Bakayoko has been questioned by Frank Lampard

Chelsea missed out on the chance to top their Champions League group after Atletico held them to a draw at Stamford Bridge.

The La Liga giants took the lead through Saul, who escaped Bakayoko to head past Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea went on to restore parity with Eden Hazard’s devastating dribbling forcing an own goal from former Manchester City ace Stefan Savic.

And, speaking to BT Sport after the game, Lampard expressed doubts about Bakayoko and urged the former Monaco man to up his game.

“He sleeps," the former Blues ace said.

“His concentration goes and at this level if you sleep for a second and it's an easy goal for Atletico.”

Lampard thinks the player needs to improve, and admitted that Bakayoko has struggled to adjust to English football.

“I don't know with Bakayoko,” the ex-England international added.

“I think it's well documented that he hasn't settled quickly at Chelsea and English football in the Premier League as well and he has to come to grips with that.

“A moment's sleeping today doesn't work so he needs to improve but he's [Antonio Conte] got options.

“[Danny] Drinkwater will play as well but hopefully Bakayoko will improve.”

Chelsea news: Tiemoue Bakayoko struggled against Atletico Madrid

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte defended Bakayoko after the Atletico game.

“I think Bakayoko is a young player and is only 23 years old,” the Italian said.

“He is working to try to improve and go into our idea of football.

“In this case it is important to work and have patience and understand that mistakes are normal in the game.

“Not only him but for every player. We have to continue to work and continue to improve a player.

“At the same time I am very happy for his commitment and his work.”
