Father, uncle held for killing woman to 'save family honour'

In what appeared to be a case of honour killing, the and uncle of a woman were arrested for allegedly killing her, the police said today.

The blood-stained body of the woman was recovered from Mehmood village in the Dankaur area yesterday, Dankaur Station House Officer (SHO) Farmood Ali Pundir said, adding that the deceased was subsequently identified as Jyoti, a resident of Jehangirpur.


When the parents of the deceased were questioned in connection with the incident, their answers were not satisfactory, the SHO said.

The of the deceased,Omvir, and uncle Karanpal were detained and made to face a detailed interrogation, he added.

The duo confessed to have killed the woman and dumped the body in the Dankaur area, the SHO said, adding that the accused took the decision to kill the woman as she was allegedly having an affair with a man and spoiling her family's reputation.

The duo told the police that they killed the woman to save the family's honour, the SHO said.
