MOSCOW: During its participation in an international parliamentary conference in Moscow, Russia, titled, “Parliamentarians Against Drugs,” the Federal National Council (FNC) Parliamentary Division stated that the UAE had adopted a comprehensive strategy to combat drugs and reduce their adverse effects.
The Parliamentary Division, represented by Azza Soliman bint Soliman, FNC Member, added that the UAE’s wise leadership has prioritised combatting drugs on local, regional and international levels.
In her speech during the conference, which was saw the participation of 44 countries, Soliman highlighted the fact that the UAE has taken effective steps and procedures to combat drugs, dry up their sources and reduce their negative effects, which include the pursuit of criminals trying to smuggle and sell drugs, as well as prevention and awareness campaigns targeting all the segments of the local community.
Soliman added that the UAE has established a comprehensive system of necessary laws and legislation to prevent and combat drugs and raise awareness about their dangers.
She explained that the UAE has signed many related regional and international agreements, including the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime in 2002, and has established several partnerships and cooperation agreements with relevant entities, such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) branch in Abu Dhabi, which is the only office of its kind in the region.
