Finally, the Bisra police succeeded in cracking the mystery of loot of `25 lakh at gunpoint from an ATM cash van near Sorada under the Bisra police limits here on December 1 evening and arrested nine accused on Tuesday.
The arrestees included two juveniles and two custodians of the CMS company, which is entrusted to load currency in different ATMs. Police also recovered `24.35 lakh and a cache of ammunition and other materials used in the loot from their possession.
Western Range DIG of Police Kabita Jalan told reporters that while the van had gone to Soroda to load currency in the SBI ATM, it was looted by unidentified bike-borne miscreants. CMS Area Manager Bijay Kumar Biswal lodged an FIR at the police station at about 8.30 pm. Since then, police had suspicion regarding involvement of certain company employees in the incident. And the police finally succeeded in their investigation.
The arrestees were Rajaram Patra (34) and Nirmal Chandra Kar (45) (CMS custodians, Braja Sundar Sethy @ Bengu @ Bapi (26), Pintu Nayak (27), Biju Nayak (21), Ajay Nayak @ Gandhi (28), two juveniles and Surykant Sethy (21) (receiver).
The police recovered a double-barrel shotgun looted from the security gunman, a country made pistol, two of Bhujalis, three motorcycles used in the crime, ten mobile phones including the three looted from CMS personnel and cash of `24.35 lakh.
