Sarah Platt (played by Tina O’Brien) was dealt a devastating blow with the news that partner Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) had died on the ITV soap.

After receiving the telephone call from Gary’s boss Joe at the “security firm” in the Ukraine, which was a cover for his real business as an assassin, the mother-of-two initially refused to believe it. 

Yet when Sarah’s brother David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) took it upon himself to do some digging into the situation, he was forced to deliver Gary’s tragic fate following the discovery of some personal items that were instantly recognisable as belonging to him. 

Baffled by the unexpected turn of events, fans couldn’t stop themselves expressing their feelings on social media. 

“All seems very bizarre this Gary dead scene #Corrie #CoronationStreet,” one person wrote. 

Another posted: “Life is unpredictable #Gary #Corrie #Platts @itvcorrie,” followed by: “Why is Gary's death so sudden? #itvcorrie #corrie #coronationstreet.”

Some viewers were suspicious of the situation, and even slammed ITV for their handling of the distressing news.

“Wow @itvcorrie this is probably the worst way I’ve seen a character written out of a soap. Almost seems disrespectful to the actor #corrie,”one person complained.
