Corbyn government is a 'BIGGER RISK' to UK than Brexit uncertainty, investor claims

JEREMY Corbyn in government is a "greater risk" to the British economy than the Brexit negotiations because of his plans to raise corporations tax, investment expert Howard Shore has warned.

Mr Shore said a Corbyn Government would affect London's ability to continue to attract international investors with its "favourable tax environment" after Brexit.

He said: "I think what’s vital for London is that we have an environment that attracts international business because we have a favourable tax environment.

"Clearly, the risk of a Corbyn Government is much greater than the uncertainty over the Brexit negotiations."

Mr Corbyn unveiled plans to hike corporations tax by nearly a third as part of his manifesto ahead of the June General Election.

But the Shore Investment founder said Mr Corbyn's chances to become Prime Minister had increased, warning the Labour leader's plans would go against a global strategy aimed at attracting more business to key business hubs such as London.

Mr Shore told CNBC: "There is a global movement towards trying to attract business and lower corporation tax.

"You wouldn’t have projected that Corbyn would have a realistic chance 12 months ago. Things can change quickly in politics."

Leading investment bank Morgan Stanley also issued a stark warning against a Corbyn government, claiming the left-winger leader could trigger the nationalisation of key industries, higher taxed and a shift in spending priorities towards lower-income households.

A shock report from the bank's European equity team said: "The UK is in the midst of a double whammy of uncertainty in the shape of Brexit and a fragile domestic political situation.

"From a UK investor perspective, we believe that the domestic political situation is at least as significant as Brexit, given the fragile state of the current government and the perceived risks of an incoming Labour administration that could potentially embark on a radical change in policy direction."

Morgan Stanley told investors that British utility companies, like water and power, were at higher risk of nationalisation under a Labour government.

The Labour Party has vowed to "put an end to the rigged economy that benefits only the super-rich."
