Gandhinagar: Gujarat elections are proving to an edge of the seat thriller, as the poll pundits have predicted a razor thin margin for the victorious party. This is certainly a bad news for BJP because it was presumed that the Gujarat would be a piece of cake for it.
However, some analysts have also predicted a rout of BJP due to anger amongst people towards GST and demonetization and a secondary reason of Patidar agitation.
A recent poll survey has interestingly focused upon possible vote share between the BJP and Congress. The opinion poll by CSDS-Lokniti does not say the BJP is losing, but it put the vote share of both parties at 43%. This means that the Congress is going to gain considerably but how much would it translate into seats, is a big mystery which nobody can predict.

The survey says that the emergence of Congress in the state is outstanding but still it has long way to go in the final lurch towards the finish line. Even if the party succeeds in garnering 43% of votes, it would certainly attribute to a tremendous achievement for it. Besides, it will tantamount to a massive setback to BJP as well. This is just to avoid that possible setback that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone into a mode of ‘regional’ assault. This is because Gujarat has become a question of honor for Modi and Amit Shah because they both are from this state.
The CSDS-Lokniti survey says that the public mood is not in favor of BJP mainly because of economic reasons. This also holds true that the wrath for the BJP does not mean love for the Congress but as people want to express their anger, they would just go the Congress way.
So be ready for a sentimental end of the coming polls. The swing in sentiment would be towards Gujarati pride or expression of hurt pockets, it will be decided within a few days.
