Hospitals of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam to deal with cyclone victims

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The bodies of four fishermen who were taken to hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam have been identified. Of this, the bodies of Lazar and Arogyadas from Poonthura were brought to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Sunday in a decomposed condition. Post-mortems were done and the bodies have been kept at the hospital mortuary.
Two out of the three bodies received at Kollam during the search operation have been identified as that of Kanyakumari native Susai, 65, and Victor, 35, a resident of Thottapuram in Vizhinjam. The relatives collected the bodies on Monday.

The MCH has so far received 16 bodies; most of them were decomposed on arrival. Two bodies were brought on Friday, five on Saturday and nine on Sunday. Only two bodies identified by relatives have been taken out of the hospital; the rest of the bodies are kept in various mortuaries. Four bodies are kept at the morgue of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology and five at the General Hospital. Hospital authorities said they had made an arrangement to keep dead bodies at the mortuary of private hospitals if there was a need.

As the coastal region in the district became the worst affected in cyclone Ockhi, more people are taking treatment at MCH. Currently, there are 41 people undergoing treatment here, nine persons have been discharged on Monday, while 72 people from the coastal region have sought treatment from MCH so far.Most of them are admitted in ward 22, 9, 2 and 11. The health of Pulluvila native Rathish, 30, who is admitted in critical care ICU continue to be serious. According to doctors, other patients are recovering.
