KOCHI:  All that glittered did indeed turn out to be gold at the eighth edition of the Kerala Gem and Jewellery Show ‘KGJS 2017’ that showcased an extensive and breathtaking range of precious and semi-precious gems and jewellry designs. The state’s biggest one-stop B2B trade exhibition of jewellers was held from December 2 to December 4, 2017, at CIAL Exhibition Centre, near the Cochin International Airport.

It saw a wide participation of jewellery manufacturers, jewel artisans, leading designers, technology service providers, wholesale and retail jewellers from across the country.
The trade fair was inaugurated by Industries Minister A C Moideen. The show was jointly organised by AOJ Media, PVJ Endeavours, a renowned consulting firm in jewellery trade and KNC Services, the organisers of premier international exhibitions.

Besides this, the event is supported by all the jewellery industry associations in the state, Gem and Jewellery organisations across India and leading international organisations and collectives in the field.
“With the successful roll-out of GST, we are delighted to have KGJS back in Kerala. The trade fair will provide the necessary extra impetus to jewellery manufacturers and retailers in the state, enabling them to take Kerala’s thriving gem and jewellery market to newer heights assimilating the latest trends and industrial updates,” said P V Jose, Director, KGJS and Chairman PVJ Endeavours.

Referring to the state’s shimmering traditional jewellery, Kranti Nagvekar, Director, KGJS, and CEO of KNC Services said the traditional pieces of Kerala are world famous. However, its global market potential is not effectively tapped. “This gem and jewellery show has emerged as an excellent platform for sourcing and networking Kerala’s traditional designs,” she said. The expo also gives the merchants and manufacturers of Kerala an opportunity to study new designs from different parts of the world.

There are around 200 stalls with pavilions specialised in gold, diamond, allied items and advanced equipment and technologies. Each jeweller had unique designs which made them stand out from the rest.
A Chennai based jewellery, Vithraag Jewels showcased their latest temple design collection. The highlight of these designs are they are handmade and embellished with ruby, rice pearls and gemstones with a glass layer encrusted on top. Even their diamond collection ‘Venki’ is trendy and is handmade.

While some jewellers chose to showcase traditional designs, some others tried to give a contemporary look to their designs. Kolkata- based JKS Jewellers displayed their filigree work which is a type of fancy jewellery. Other leading jewellers like Dew Diamonds, S K Sethco, Amy Palace and Kripa Jewellers also showcase some of the best designs in gold and diamonds. The major attractions of the show are the exclusive jewellery collections in Italian, Turkish , Singapore and Malaysian designs. A fashion show was also held with models showcasing a diverse array of traditional as well as custom-made designer ornaments in gold, diamonds, gems and pearls.
