UP DGP warns people posting wrong info on social media of stern action

| | Lucknow

Director General of Police Sulkhan Singh on Monday claimed that Uttar Pradesh is a much better State in crime rate as it was placed behind 25 States despite having a massive demographic share. While addressing a congregation after inaugurating ‘Nari Suraksha Saptah’ at IT college in Lucknow on Monday morning, he said, “Those posting wrong information on social media sites will be also dealt with an iron fist.”

Referring to figures cited by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) that merged UP amongst the top crime-prone States in the country, the DGP said if the population of the State is taken into account, then 25 States are ahead of Uttar Pradesh in occurence of crime.

Singh said the crime rate has been maintained despite the UP Police facing acute shortage of man power. He said against the national average of 156 policemen per lakh  presently, UP had just 121 policemen per lakh , yet the state police has been able to provide much better law and order.

Meanwhile, the DGP claimed that he had asked Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) to assist in probes initiated into pandrol clips gone missing from a section of railway track before the arrival of an express train in Lucknow on Sunday morning.

As many as 77 pandrol clips, used in holding together tracks and concrete sleepers, were found missing between Badshah Nagar and Daliganj railway stations just before the arrival of Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express from Azamgarh.

The missing clips were detected by Railway patrol staff Shiv Shankar and Sanjay, who informed higher authorities.

An FIR was registered in this regard against unidentified persons at Mahanagar police station.

Appealing to members of the fairer sex to come forward with their complaints so that culprits could be brought to books and a safe atmosphere for girls and women could be created in the State, the top cop said this is the first time that a full week on women’s safety was being celebrated.

“From now on, this week will be observed every year to create a safer atmosphere for women.
