Chandigarh: The long-awaited report of the committee that monitored the quality of construction over the last 16 years of expansion at Panjab University (PU) will go before the syndicate on December 10. The team has submitted its status report on all building projects.
The nine-member committee that first met this March 21 includes former dean of university instructions (DUI) AK Bhandari, professors Ajay Ranga, Manoj Sharma, Rabindranath Sharma, Suveera Gill, Sanjeev Sharma, and Rajnish Vats, and PEC University of Technology director's nominee Tripta Goyal. A subcommittee of members from PEC's civil engineering department failed to meet.
The main committee formed another three-member panel of professors Rabindranath Sharma, Sanjeev Sharma, and Manoj Sharma to know the inadequacies in the completed projects—dental college and the buildings of the University Institutes of Engineering Technology and Applied Management Sciences. The report is awaited.
In its second meeting on September 7, the nine-member committee stated that the three ongoing projects—Girls' Hostel Number 10, Type-I flats for teachers, and the renovation of houses for the Class-C employees—be inspected on priority. It decided to meet as soon as the sub-committee would file its report.
It also decided to write to the chairpersons, directors, and wardens concerned to seek their feedback on the flaws in all construction over the past 16 years. It wants the executive engineer's office to receive this response that the heads of many teaching departments have filed.
