Secretary of Women Ophthalmologists Society, Jharkhand Chapter cum noted ophthalmologist of the State, Dr. Bharti Kashyap, bagged the prestigious best Community Ophthalmology Award, 2017 recently at the second annual conference of Women Ophthalmologists Society (WOS) held at Jaipur.
The award was given away by Dr. Susan MacDonald, President, Women in Ophthalmology Society, USA on November 25, 2017, the inaugural day of the two-day long WOS second annual conference with the theme “Technology Meeting Trends," organised at the KK Royal Hotel and Convention centre, Jaipur.
Dr Kashyap expressed gratitude on receiving the award and said, "I am honoured to receive the Community Ophthalmology Award, 2017, at the 2nd Annual Conference of WOS at Jaipur and to be a part of the august gathering of eminent international and national ophthalmologists of the likes of Dr. Mohita Sharma, founder Secretary, Women Ophthalmologists Society who founded the bold WOS movement, Dr. Swati Tomar, WOS Organising Secretary, Dr. Susan MacDonald, President, Women in Ophthalmology, USA, Dr. Fremida Kherrani from Canada, Dr Zaiba Malik, USA, Dr Prabjot Channa, USA, Dr. Mildred Olivier, USA, Dr Yuri Mckee, USA, Dr Ruska Hristova, Bulgaria."
Dr. Bharti Kashyap also presented a paper titled "Femto assisted cataract is a must for modern ophthalmologist" and convened an international session, in which eminent USA based ophthalmologist and Board Member, Women of Ophthalmology were present. She was also a convenor of a session on "Controversies in Ophthalmology" at the WOS Conference.“The WOS is a bold movement for upliftment of women ophthalmologists of India. Apart from scientific and innovative sessions, the two day WOS Conference comprised Yoga sessions for rejuvenation, meditation sessions for de-stressing, Women in Research and Mentor-Mentee session," she added. During the conference the international session had many new things. Discussions were held on a special kind of ocular lens where the power can be adjusted as per patient’s need even after surgery. The session was attended by many including Dr. Susan MacDonald, President, Women in Ophthalmology, USA; Dr. Fremida Kherrani from Canada, Dr Zaiba Malik, USA; Dr Prabjot Channa, USA, Dr. Mildred Olivier, USA, Dr Yuri Mckee, USA, Dr Ruska Hristova, Bulgaria and Dr Prabhjot Chnna from USA.
Also, women in Research Group, was formed and an announcement was made that several new research have been initiated in ophthalmology. Under this plan has been made to do research in 12 new ideas. The cooperating group also gave valuable suggestions for study and research of the new ideas.
During the leading women’s session lessons were learnt as to how leadership can be sustained in various fields and execute works in proper way.
It was requested from all secretaries of States to discuss with Medical College HODs and encourage the local post graduate participants for membership and participation.Notably, this is the second national award bagged by Dr. Kashyap this year.
Earlier, in July, Kashyap was honoured with the coveted Doctor of the Year Award, 2017, by Indian Medical Association, New Delhi.Dr. Bharti Kashyap has also been invited to present three scientific papers in the upcoming annual conference of American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C., between April 13 and 17, 2018.
