Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor breathed his last on Monday evening at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai and left the film fraternity in deep shock. Many took to Twitter to express their grief and offer condolences to the family.
Best known for his work in films such as Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Namak Halal, Kaala Pathar, and Kabhie Kabhie, Shashi had stayed away from the limelight in the last two decades but still continued to share a unique bond with the entire film industry.
"With men like him around, I stood no chance at all," wrote Amitabh Bachchan in an emotional post remembering his friend and colleague.
Shashi Kapoor who played a police officer Ravi Verma in the iconic movie Deewaar, earned him the best supporting actor Filmfare trophy.
"Mere Paas Maa Hai"- the line from the 1975 blockbuster is one of Kapoor's most memorable dialogues, that will forever live in the hearts of the Indian audiences.
Recognising the honesty of the character portrayed by Kapoor on the big screen, Mumbai police took to microblogging site Twitter on Tuesday and hailed the role of Ravi Verma played by him for setting up a benchmark for an upright policeman.
Famous for their punny tweets, the official account of Mumbai Police wrote, "The ‘Deewar’ between the ‘Good’ and ‘Bad’ that shall always stand tall till many generations to come #RIPShashiKapoor"
The fitting tribute was appreciated by Twitterati.
