The students of Madhya Pradesh School of Drama (MPSD) learn new styles of theatre presentations in every new session. This time, the students are preparing the ‘Chitrapata Ramayana’.

CR Jambe, the former director of Rangayan is here to teach the students of MPSD about Chitrapata Ramayana. The special lectures by CR Jambe began from December 1. On the first day, Jambe just gave an introductory lecture on Chitrapata Ramayana.

Chitrapata Ramayana is not something what Valmiki wrote. This is the reconstruction of Ramayana in the folk tradition. Based on the original folk play written by Helavanakatte Giriyamma, in this play, the author has adopted a style where the story is presented through showcasing pictures and folk styled songs and dances.

Informing more about Chitrapata Ramayana, Jambe told the students that this play will be performed on Carnatic theatre style. Jambe said that during the entire presentation the art of ‘Abhinaya’ will play the vital role. Through the eyes and the body movements just like the folk tales, Chitrapata Ramayana will be presented. It is to be noted that the workshop conducted by CR Jambe will continue till December 30. During the entire workshop, the students will be taught about the folk tradition and how to present the character on stage with efficiency. Not only this, but during the workshop, the students will be given information on Kathakali dance form.

The MPSD students will present the Chitrapata Ramayana on December 31 and January 1 at Bharat Bhavan Auditorium.
