Actress Simran Sharma is all set to make her first appearance on the silver screen with a Telugu film Ego. The Mumbai born and brought up lass is on a cloud nine and says that all her hard work in the advertisement industry has paid off well. “Since childhood, I’m passionate about films and always had a gut feeling of seeing myself on the big screen. I started off my career in modelling in commercials as it was seen as a fast track to get into the film industry.

I’m glad that my dream has been fulfilled with Ego.”
On being asked how she bagged her first film, Simran explains, “One of my friends told me that VKA Films were on the lookout for an actress. I met producers Vijay, Karan, Kaushal Karan and Anil Karan and did a trail photo-shoot. They were impressed with my look test and thought I fitted the bill for the female lead’s role in the film.”

To get into the skin of her character, Simran ambitiously attended a month-long workshop in Hyderabad. “Although I am not new to facing the camera, acting needs a different kind of skills. The workshop helped me to understand my role, body language and dialogues really well. I was also given a translator to improve my communication skills. Director Subramanyam and the unit members were always willing to lend me a helping hand to overcome any shortcomings and made me feel comfortable on the sets.”

Simran enjoyed playing a village belle as it challenged her acting skills. “I will be seen as Indu, a happy-go-lucky girl, who pampers her ego and is a tough one to crack. Her unpredictable behaviour and reactions are a delight to watch. The film was set in a rustic backdrop and was majorly shot in places like Rajahmundry and Palakollu. So, it was quite difficult to beat the heat but I enjoyed doing it.”

Among Telugu actors, Simran says that she is a fan of Mahesh Babu. “I admire Mahesh Babu for his acting abilities. Even though I haven’t seen many of his films, I find him cool.”
Apart from her favourite hero, has she got any role model? “I do not have a role model as such. I admire a lot of people in the industry and I enjoy watching all kinds of films.”

The starlet finds working in Tollywood quite exciting. “Although I was a newcomer, I never felt like one. I’m glad that Telugu industry welcomed me and it was a great learning experience.”
So, what does Simran plan to do next? “I would like to prove myself as an actress, explore every genre and essay different kinds of roles. But for now, I’m awaiting the release of Ego,” she signs off.
