England lock Launchbury signs new Wasps deal

2017-12-05 18:05

London - England lock Joe Launchbury has signed a new contract with Premiership side Wasps, the club announced on Tuesday, without disclosing the length of the deal.

The second row joined the Wasps Academy in 2009, made his Premiership debut against Leicester two years later and has since gone on to make 117 appearances.

The giant lock forward, 26, made his international debut against Fiji in 2012 and has won 47 caps for England.

"We know a number of sides would have been keen for Joe to join them and it is a mark of his loyalty and belief in the squad we are assembling that he has put pen to paper to sign on again with Wasps," said director of rugby Dai Young.

Launchbury said he was delighted to extend his stay at the club, currently fifth in the Premiership.

"Over the past few weeks, it has been great to see a number of players signing new contracts, enabling the club to retain quality players in what is already a fantastic squad," he said.

Launchbury joins England team-mate Elliot Daly, Tom Cruse, Ashley Johnson, Rob Miller and Alex Rieder in announcing contract extensions with Wasps in recent weeks.
