Arafat confesses to killing Avijit

A member of the militant outfit Ansar al Islam, Arafat, said in his confessional statement to a metropolitan magistrate on Monday in the city that Khalil and Anik hacked blogger Avijit with machetes repeatedly on the head and body, when he and Auntu came forward with the intention to finish the job under the instruction of Bara Bhai, Maj (sacked) Zia.  
He and three other members of the outfit attacked him on February 26 in 2015, when Avijit reached Raju Bashkarjjo near the TSC on the Dhaka University campus. Avijit Roy, along his wife Rafida, was returning from Bangla Academy on foot after an unveiling ceremony of his book cover. Due to repeated stabbing Avijit fell to the ground but as passersby came to his rescue, they left the scene.  Later Avijit died at Dhaka Medical Hospital at night.
