Jivi Grand 3000 Review: A Not So 'Smart'Phone

Chinese smartphone maker 'Jivi' has come up with a new smartphone offering for the Indian market. The new device, named Grand 3000, has been launched by the company at a price of Rs 6,999. The smartphone is a 'Made in India' product as Jivi used its own mobile handsets manufacturing unit in India, initiated in 2016. After a couple of weeks' usage, here’s what we think about this Jivi.

What’s so cool?

Jivi Grand 3000 definitely totals decent marks for its design, partly owing to its black coloured finish. Both power button and volume keys on the right are conveniently placed for single-handed operation and it adds positive remarks to its handling. Jivi Grand 3000 is powered by a 1.64-bit quad-core 64-bit processor and runs Nougat 7.0 OS which collaboratively delivers quite a smooth performance. The device supports three slots, two for SIMs (nano+micro) and the third one for the microSD card which makes it easy to operate different SIM cards type. The speakers of the device are placed at its back, which delivers much better sound quality in comparison to the earphones accompanying the device. The device weighs 142 grams, which is quite appropriate in this segment and is convenient to carry.



The smartphone is 8.8 mm thick which adds a smart look to the device. The camera of the device is placed at the top right corner, with the flash just beneath it. The phone boxes 16GB of internal storage that can be stretched up to an additional 64GB via a microSD card. The phone is backed by 3000 mAh battery which lasts for more than a day if you use it for just for phone calls. If you use it to operate your social media accounts, you might need a power bank to use the device for the entire day. Talking about its camera, the phone features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and there’s a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video chat. The rear camera produces good photographs in appropriate lighting conditions. Speaking about its display, Grand 3000 sports a 5.5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which is up to the mark, while the brightness quality is just decent in outdoors.

What’s not so cool?
Though the cameras on the smartphone produce good photographs in the daytime, they fail to do the same in the night or in the absence of proper lighting. At the very same time, there are other smartphones like Moto C Plus or Redmi 4A, they both produce better picture quality when compared to Grand 3000. Apart from the camera, the earphones that come with the phone are not up to the mark and it is completely uncomfortable to use them beyond twenty minutes. Jivi Grand 3000 lags behind in terms of camera, display and the overall performance while competing with its rival Redmi 4a or Moto C Plus. The absence of fingerprint sensor makes the device overall dull. The display of the device is not up to the mark at all and one will definitely avoid watching videos on it.



Verdict:
Jivi Grand 3000 fails to deliver a good smartphone experience on the whole. The presence of various smartphones by manufacturers like Oppo, Vivo, Motorola and Xiaomi may affect the presence Jivi in the Indian market. Though Jivi tries to full fill the need of an average smartphone user, but fails to stand with its specifications while competing with its major rivals especially Xiaomi.
