The case of seven dacoities in seven houses at two villages Latheeya and Itko under Nawa Bazar in the months of October and November has been cracked with five arrests made by the team of police led by DSP Heeralal Ravi.
SP Palamu Indrajeet Mahatha held a press briefing on Monday and said that the five arrested will undergo TI (Test Identity) parade.
However, the unfolding of the seven cases of dacoities turned somber when SP told the gathering of scribes that all five arrested alleged ‘dacoits’ are ‘brick kiln labourers’ and languish as poor despite having made dacoities which had sparked public protest and even NH 98 jam.
Police made recoveries from these five which further proved the stark and abject poverty of these five ‘dacoits’.
The recoveries are 9.4 meter of unstitched cloth! Sources said that never in the history of dacoity in Palamu especially in rural areas such a recovery of un stitched cloth has ever been made. The other recoveries are plastic torch, emergency rock light, cell phone battery and four cell phones of the victims of dacoities.
The un stitched clothes were in stripes ,deep blue , cream colour and were meant for shirts and pants. There was one 2.4 meter of unstitched cloth of gray colour.
However these five dacoits were so poor that none of them could get it tailored in these weeks after their commission of crime. Police got these clothes intact. Sources said scarcity of money with the dacoits was the major factor behind this as these five were just brick kiln labourers.
Police caught them as these five were using the looted four cell phones of the victim families of dacoity.
Police put the number of these cell phones and their EMEI number on tracking mode and finally their conversation led to the location of the tower and police arrested them at Aman Eit Bhatta on Sunday December 3.
The five were remanded in judicial custody on Monday December 4.
Sources said DSP Ravi and his team worked hard on this case and got it cracked The five arrested are all Birhores a primitive group of tribe.
The SP said, “We understand they are poor brick kiln labourers but since they have committed dacoity they will have to face 395 section of IPC.”
Extreme poverty and desire to earn extra money led these five to enter into this crime said sources.
These five have no history of any crime to their names, said Nawa Bazar police.
