Thane: Senior citizen killed after speeding car knocks him down on EEH near Kopri

THANE: A senior citizen was hit by a speeding car while he was trying to cross the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) near Kopri on Sunday morning.

The 60-year-old victim, Chandrakant Shejval, was barely 10 minutes away from his residence at Anand Nagar when a car heading towards Mumbai knocked him down, killing him before he could be taken to the hospital. A few passersby said that Shejval started bleeding profusely after he was hit by the four-wheeler.


The Kopri police confirmed that he succumbed to his head injuries before he could be given medical treatment.


The police are on the lookout for the driver who did not bother to stop after knocking him down. They also said that they would be scanning the CCTV footage of the area.


The unidentified driver has been booked under Sections 279 (for rash driving), 337 (for causing hurt), 338 (for causing grievous hurt), 304 (A) (for causing death of a person by a rash act), 184 (for driving dangerously) and Motor Vehicles Act 124 (A) and (B) (for not taking reasonable steps to seek medical attention to the injured person) of the Indian Penal Code.
