Sangrur: A 22-year-old son of the president of Akali women wing, Lehragaga, was assaulted by some goons in a broad daylight in the town on Monday. A group of men attacked him and opened fire, leaving him injured on the spot. The victim had bullet injuries on his thigh and was referred to a higher medical institute.
Meanwhile, the police arrested four accused identified as Manmohan Mohna, Gurpreet Singh, Yadwinder Singh, and Komaljit Singh at a police barrier installed near Ghagga of Patiala. The police claimed that the four accused arrested were once friends of victim Gurdeep but had now turned foes over some reason. It added that on Sunday the victim had landed in a tussle with the accused at a marriage party.
"We are investigating the matter, however, we have arrested the accused under various sections of attempt to murder and arms Act. We have also recovered two illegal .12-bore weapons and around 9 cartridges from them. The accused had a bullet injury on his thigh. His mother is a women wing president of SAD in Lehragaga but there was no political rivalry. Among those arrested three belong to Mansa while one hails from Sangrur district," said investigating officer Nishan Singh.
