Sri Lanka looked to be coasting and in complete control of the 3rd Test before one wicket fell and began a domino effect. Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews struck centuries to take Sri Lanka forward in the first two sessions of the third day but wickets fell cheaply and quickly in the final session to put things back in India’s favour. Despite avoiding follow on, the Test hinges firmly and squarely in India’s favour with Sri Lanka still 180 runs adrift of the host’s first innings total of 536/7 declared. India need a single wicket to close things out for Sri Lanka and bat once again. Catch live scores and updates from India vs Sri Lanka in 3rd Test on Day 3.

India vs Sri Lanka 3rd Test Live Score and Updates:

1134 hrs IST: India go into the lunch break at 51/2 and lead Sri Lanka by 214 runs. Shikhar Dhawan is on 15 and Cheteshwar Pujara on 17. Ajinkya Rahane and Murali Vijay the two wickets to fall.

1110 hrs IST: WICKET! Ajinkya Rahane had accumulated all of 10 runs from 36 balls. Had survived one leg before and the pressure was on him to get the runs as it showed with the progression in the order. But he has failed to make the most of the chance. An incredibly poor shot reeking of desperation to get out of an uncomfortable spot. Comes down the track, tries to slog but ends up handing a simple catch to Sandakan at long on.

1024 hrs IST: Rahane is given out leg before off Lakmal. It had pitched on middle stump and kept swinging in to him. Fair delivery from the Sri Lankan seamer, did not take an inside edge, and hit the front pad. India review after Rahane consults with Dhawan. HawkEye says the ball was missing the stumps. Rahane survives. Kohli expressed joy at that decision.

1018 hrs IST: Ajinkya Rahane has been promoted to number three. Comes in ahead of Cheteshwar Pujara

1015 hrs IST: WICKET! Edged and taken by Dickwella. This wicket was coming. Murali Vijay hadn’t looked comfortable at all in 11 balls he faced. Rushed into shots on many instances. Was playing at everything outside off stump and has been punished for one shot too many. Short of length from Lakmal, hint of shape away, Vijay looked to play on the up but doesn’t take the movement into consideration. Gives out the edge and Dickwella holds on. Completely uncharacteristic from what we’ve seen of him in the last two innings

1005 hrs IST: Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay open for India. Suranga Lakmal is the first to get the new ball. Lahiru Gamage on the other end. Worth pointing out that besides the bowler and the keeper (Niroshan Dickwella), all other Sri Lankan players are wearing masks.

0955 hrs IST: India were looking to remove Chandimal from strike but get his wicket instead. Short and wide from Ishant, Chandimal gets his bat to it, and the top edge goes flying towards Dhawan at third man. And the birthday boys make no mistake there. India take a significant 163-run first innings lead as Chandimal departs for 164

0940 hrs IST: Chandimal gets his career best as he moves to 163. After Virat Kohli, Chandimal’s turn to get a milestone moment here. Gets there with back-to-back boundaries. One played off the pads as Shami gets the line all wrong and then anticipating the short one to ramp it over the slip’s cordon.

0930 hrs IST: Chandimal brings up his 150 – fourth in Test cricket for him. Getting some luck there as well. Gets an edge and then a four off Ishant to add crucial runs to his tally and that of the team

0925 hrs IST: Early start in Delhi by 5 minutes. We’ve lost a few overs in the last three days due to fading light. Floodlights on already under hazy conditions. Shami has the ball first up

0900 hrs IST: Hello and Good morning for our live coverage of the third Test between India and Sri Lanka which is into the fourth day. Sri Lanka would be disappointed with how the final session transpired on the third day. Could have shut things down on India and their winning run but for a lower order collapse. Dinesh Chandimal, unbeaten on 147, would be eager to add as many as possible alongside Lakshan Sandakan for final wicket.
