JAIPUR: The state government will launch centre-sponsored Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) this month for pregnant women and lactating mothers.
It will be launched with an aim to provide them partial compensation for the wage loss in terms of cash incentives so that the woman can take adequate rest before and after delivery of the first living child.
Under the scheme, the government will directly transfer Rs 5,000 at different intervals in beneficiaries' accounts with the objective of providing adequate nutrition, improving uptake of health services, and partially compensating for the wages lost during pregnancy.
In the state, the scheme will be launched this month. Under the scheme, incentive of Rs 1,000 will be directly transferred to the beneficiary account on early registration of pregnancy. A sum of Rs 2,000 will be directly transferred after 6 months of pregnancy and Rs 2,000 on child birth registration, said Anita Bhadel, minister department of women and child development, while talking about the achievements of her department in four years of the government on Monday. At least one antenatal check-up is must to avail the benefit of second instalment of incentives. Ministry of women and child development has already issued scheme implementation guidelines.
"In India, every third woman is undernourished and every second woman is anaemic. An undernourished mother almost inevitably gives birth to a low birth weight baby," says the guidelines.
"Owing to economic and social distress many women continue to work to earn a living for their family right up to the last days of their pregnancy. Furthermore, they resume working soon after childbirth, even though their bodies might not permit it, thus preventing their bodies from fully recovering on one hand, and also impeding their ability to exclusively breastfeed their young infant in the first six months," says the guidelines.
This scheme will provide them financial assistance so that they would be able to feed her and her baby nutritious food.
