Live Now : Toss won by India (decided to bat)

Highlights

16:36(IST)

So, that indeed is all the action for today. Jadeja's twin blow in the last over certainly means that India has upper hand now. SL end Day 3 at 31/3 then, India will need to take just 7 wickets tomorrow and they should really wrap this up tomorrow.

16:34(IST)

WICKET! Suranga Lakmal departs now,  he came in as night watchman but Jadeja has him clean bowled off the third delivery. It clatters onto the off stump

16:32(IST)

WICKET! Karunaratne departs, he gets a thin edge and Saha completes a smart catch, Karunaratne looks to his partner but doesn't review and rightly so. Karunaratne departs for 13.

16:27(IST)

SIX! Dhananjaya has had enough of blocking, he goes down on one knee and heaves it over mid-wicket for the maximum.

16:23(IST)

Jadeja and Ashwin continuing to pile on the pressure, but India continue to dominate. Sri Lanka defending everything for now, lets see how long they continue blocking.

16:13(IST)

Wicket! Almost, Umpire gives Dhananjaya out, who is struck in front of the wicket. He straight away goes for a review which show that he had gotten a big inside edge. Dhananjaya survives.

16:11(IST)

The light towers are on in Delhi, with natural light dipping really fast.  Dhananjaya looks to give Jadeja charge but misses the ball and India almost get a wicket.

16:08(IST)

Jadeja indeed comes on from the other end, Jadeja and Ashwin hunting in pairs now as Sri Lankan batsman look to play out the day. SL 16/1

16:04(IST)

Ravichandran Ashwin comes into the attack for India, light certainly fading, so it won't be a surprise to see Jadeja on from the other end. Ashwin starts with a maiden. SL 14/1.

16:00(IST)

After the wicket, Shami seems to be struggling a bit. It seems even he is vomiting now. Smog certainly getting the better off everyone in Delhi!

15:58(IST)

WICKET!Wow! What a bouncer from Shami, almost knocking Samarawickrama out, he gets away but next delivery is also a fast bouncer, Samarawickrama gets hit on the glove and Rahane completes the catch. Samarawickrama departs for 5

15:50(IST)

Ishant and Shami continuing to pester the Sri Lankan batters but still no wickets lost for Sri Lanka, which is the important thing. Chasing the target will surely not be in their mind, they will be looking to play out a draw.

15:38(IST)

Mohammad Shami steaming in from the other end, Karunaratne gets a thick edge but it goes between the slip and keeper. Expensive over though, India 7/0 after 2 overs.

15:32(IST)

Ishant Sharma running in to bowl now and Kohli is on the aggressive straight away with three slips and a gully. Ishant starts with a maiden and asking batsman questions!

15:19(IST)

THAT IS IT, INDIA DECLARE!!! Rohit Sharma reaches a 50 and the Indians declare the innings immediately on 246/5. A lead of 409 runs as the visitors now need 410 to win the Test and level the series. Interesting to see how many overs the Indian pacers can bowl.

15:15(IST)

6 runs from the Sandakan over here as it looks like the Indians are playing for Rohit's 50 as the lead has now crossed the 400-run mark. Rohit is batting on 46 as India's score reads 242/5 with the lead sitting pretty on 405 runs and 5 wickets in the bag. 32 overs left in the day.

15:10(IST)

WICKET!!! A wild hoick from Kohli and that lands into the hand of the fielder as Gamage celebrates. Rohit still there in the middle as the lead now reads 397. Kohli goes for 50 and looks like the Indians are waiting for Rohit's 50 before they declare and give the bowlers a bite at the cherry. India's score reads 234/5

15:04(IST)

50 number 15 for the India skipper as the score reads 232/4. Brilliant innings from Kohli as the team looks to up the ante and declare as fast as possible. The lead now stands at 395 runs with 6 wickets in the bag.

15:01(IST)

12 runs from the Lakmal over as both Kohli and Rohit pick a boundary each despite the field being spread out. While Kohli smashes it through the off-side, Rohit goes for the pull. Both times the fielders have no chance to stop them. India's score reads 227/4 with the lead now 390

14:56(IST)

6 runs from the Sandakan over here as the Indians are trying to also score the singles and doubles when they are not getting the boundaries. India's score reads 215/4 after 48 overs with the lead now reading 378 runs. 6 wickets still in the bag for the Indians.

14:51(IST)

4 runs from the Lakmal over here as Sadeera puts in a brilliant effort and almost had Rohit's number at deep square-leg. Amazing reflex shown as he dives to try and hold onto that one. Even skipper Kohli applauds the effort as India's score reads 209/4 after 47 overs. India's lead sits pretty on 372. 37 overs left after this.

14:46(IST)

Good tight over here from Sandakan as he gives away just 1 run off the over. Rohit tried his best to take the attack to the bowler but he failed and was almost managing to scoop one to Angelo Mathews at short fine-leg. India's score reads 205/4 with the lead sitting pretty on 368

14:43(IST)

9 runs from the Lakmal over here as Kohli is now looking dangerous as he is dancing down the track to the pacers and looking to score some quick runs. Rohit giving him company at the other end. India's score reads 204/4 after 45 overs with Kohli on 34 and Rohit on 31

14:37(IST)

3 runs from the Sandakan over here as the boys are back after the tea break. Looks like the Indians are looking at a 400-run target for the Lankans as they also need the light to help them pick the 10 Lankan wickets here. India's score reads 195/4 with the lead sitting pretty on 358 runs with 6 wickets in the bag.

14:15(IST)

TEA here then on the fourth day of the third Test!!! Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have done really well, putting on 48 off just 47 balls and they are not done yet as the players head for the break. India's score reads 192/4 with the lead sitting on 355 runs with 6 wickets still in the bag.

14:12(IST)

10 runs now from the Sandakan over as the Indians are looking to go big with the tea break round the corner. Rohit gets a boundary while Kohli runs the quick singles. India's score reads 191/4 with the lead sitting on 234 runs with 6 wickets in the bag

14:06(IST)

8 runs from the Gamage over here as the tea break is round the corner. Rohit picks a boundary but the scoring rate has gone down a touch after Dhawan's dismissal and it looks highly unlikely that the Indians will declare at the tea break as a lead of 350 would be just bare minimum. India's score reads 181/4 with the lead sitting on 344 runs

14:01(IST)

6 from the Sandakan over here as both Rohit and Kohli stick to running well between the wickets as they pick the ones and two well to take India's score to 173/4. While Kohli is batting on 19, Rohit is batting on 15 as the lead reads 336 with 6 wickets in the bag.

13:58(IST)

9 runs from the Gamage over as Rohit hits an exquisite cover drive as the ball races across the turf and into the boundary. No wonder this man is immensly talented and can play the best of shots with utmost ease. India's score reads 167/4 after 39 overs with the lead reading 330

13:54(IST)

An anti-climax of an over here from Sandakan it seems as the Indians have managed to score just 3 runs after Kohli took over from where Dhawan left. India's score reads 158/4 after 38 overs with the lead sitting on 321 runs. 6 wickets still in the bag for the Indians.

13:51(IST)

10 runs from the Gamage over here as Rohit under-edges a pull to the third-man boundary while Kohli brings out his typical ODI whip off the toes as the ball races to the mid-wicket boundary. India's score reads 155/4 after 37 overs with the lead sitting on 318 runs.

LATEST UPDATES: Rohit Sharma reaches a 50 and the Indians declare the innings immediately on 246/5. A lead of 409 runs as the visitors now need 410 to win the Test and level the series. Virat Kohli had won the toss and decided to bat.

PREVIEW IND vs SL, DAY 4: The smog cleared up on Monday and so did the minds of the Sri Lankan batsmen as they showed application for the first time in the series with skipper Dinesh Chandimal and former captain Angelo Mathews holding fort to help the visitors cut out a respectable figure on the third day of the third Test at the Ferozeshah Kotla. Yes, there were dropped catches to aid both the batsmen, but then, what matters is the end result and the scoreboard will read Chandimal finished unbeaten on 147 and Mathews hit a brave 111. At stumps, Sri Lanka were 356/9 with Chandimal and Lakshan Sandakan (0 off 7 balls) at the crease, still trailing the hosts by 180 runs. Bad light ended play 5 overs in advance and the Indians will have to come back on Tuesday and pick the lone Lankan wicket before they can take strike again. While the Indian bowlers gave it their all, the same cannot be said about the fielders who kept dropping catches despite the ground fielding being top notch. If skipper Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were to blame on the second day, it was the turn of Rohit Sharma and substitute Vijay Shankar to showcase butter-fingers on the third days. Wriddhiman Saha too missed a tough chance off Mathews, but he came up with a screamer to dismiss Sadeera Samarawickrama off Ishant Sharma just when he looked to be taking the game away from the Indians with Chandimal for company. Roshen Silva (0) and Niroshan Dickwella (0) did not help the team’s cause as Ashwin looked like he was suddenly bowling unplayable deliveries. It finally took Chandimal to ensure that the Lankans avoided the follow-on as he protected Lahiru Gamage as much as he could after Suranga Lakmal (5) was dismissed by Shami, again caught well by Saha behind the wicket. Earlier, the first two sessions saw the Lankans dominate with Mathews and Chandimal playing out the first session without giving anything away to the Indian bowlers. Not to forget that both Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma bowled their hearts out and were on the mark from the word go. In fact, even R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja looked good if not lethal, but the Lankans showed a sense of application that was missing on the first two Test matches. While Mathews grinded it out, Chandimal mixed caution with aggression and ensured that he kept frustrating the bowlers with timely boundaries. But the best part was the determination shown by Mathews although he was time and again being bothered by the short of a goodlength delivery from Shami and Ishant. Mathews doesn’t have the best of techniques, but then, he made up for it with determination and discipline as he refused to let go.
