Nagpur: Gadchiroli police have kicked started an districtwide combing operation and area domination exercises. The cops have conducted the strong action in the last four days this week at a stretch under supervision of senior level officials including Addl DG (operations) of state D Kanakratnam.
The Naxalites had started targeting tribal, including dalit, population in the last fortnight period killing around four people at different places in the district labelling them as informers. The security forces have so far distanced themselves from all the latest victims of the rebels. The police have claimed that the Naxalites have decided to target innocent and unarmed tribal to make a comeback in the district where they have been heavily cornered and dominated by the security forces in the last two years.
Releasing a press release, the police department has claimed that 23 Naxalites were killed and 123 another were arrested in the last three years. Police have claimed that due to encounters, arrests and surrenders the Naxalites have lost steam in the district and hence started a killing spree eliminating the weaker section of the society instead of facing the security forces or adopt it's surrender policy.
The senior officials, including IG (ANO) Sharad Shelar, IG (Naxal range) Ankush Shinde and SP Abhinav Deshmukh apart from Kanakratnam, are spearheading a search and combing operations across the district. They are also visiting the affected places and families who have faced the Naxalites' wrath in the last few days. The security forces are also co-ordinating with their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chattishgarh.
