Liverpool news LIVE updates: Griezmann prediction, Klopp's Coutinho worry, Draxler latest

LIVERPOOL news and transfer gossip is coming thick and fast and Express Sport is on hand to bring you all the latest from Anfield.

Liverpool news LIVE updates: Express Sport brings you the latest from Anfield

Tuesday 5 December

Klopp admits Coutinho could go

14:37: Jurgen Klopp has admitted Philippe Coutinho could join Barcelona in January.

Barca have chased the Liverpool star, 25, since selling Neymar in the summer.

The Reds turned down three bids for their prized asset and were adamant they would not sell.

However, Klopp conceded the Brazilian could still leave the club.

Asked about Coutinho’s future today, Klopp said: "I don't think about it for one second. I'm not unsure, I'm not sure. Nobody knows what will happen in January."

Ghoulam signs

14.05: Liverpool target Faouzi Ghoulam has signed a new contract with Napoli.

The defender was on Napoli and Chelsea’s radar but has committed himself to the Serie A side.

The 26-year-old is said to now have a £30m release clause.

Draxler claim

11.15: Unai Emery claims Julian Draxler is an important player for PSG despite being linked with a move away.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the winger after the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Draxler, 24, has made nine starts in Ligue 1 and Emery says he counts on him.

“He’s in a constant evolution and he still has a lot of energy,” Emery told Sky Sports.

“At PSG, Draxler is in very good hands, he’s a great contributor to our game, he’s learning a lot.

“I talk to him a lot and I’m very demanding with him and he’s one of those very ambitious players and he shows that with good performances, also for the national team, and he’s a very important player for us.”

Sutton claim

09.25: Chris Sutton believes Liverpool’s attack is just as good as Manchester City.

City top the Premier League by eight points and lead Liverpool by 14.

City have also scored 13 more goals than Liverpool in 15 games - beating them 5-0 in September.

Yet Sutton claims they are close.

“There is very little separating Liverpool and Manchester City in terms of who boasts the best forward line,” he said in his Daily Mail column.

“If I was picking my dream front three from the two squads, I would have to include Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane over Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.

“Salah is instrumental in everything Liverpool do. He has now scored 12 goals and assisted another three in his 15 league games — the most prolific start by a Liverpool player in the Premier League.

“Kevin De Bruyne may be everyone’s dead cert to win Player of the Year but Salah is pushing him close. Liverpool hurt teams with their blistering pace and I love watching them. If I have one criticism it is that they lack a No 9, such as Sergio Aguero or Gabriel Jesus.

“Without a traditional target man, Liverpool struggled to break teams down earlier in the season. That’s why I would pick Aguero in my combined Liverpool-City front three.

“But what a luxury for Jurgen Klopp to have Salah, Roberto Firmino, Mane and Philippe Coutinho all fit.

“Liverpool are thrilling in attack and seem to have addressed their defensive issues, too, conceding just three goals in six league games.”

Matip injury

08.40: Jurgen Klopp admits he doesn’t know when Joel Matip will be back.

The defender missed the Brighton win and is out of the Champions League tie.

But Klopp is unsure if he will make the derby.

He said: “He has hurt his muscle. I don’t know how long exactly he’ll be out, but he’s definitely not playing Wednesday.”

Carragher praise

07.30: Jamie Carragher thinks Jurgen Klopp is finally getting things right at Liverpool.

Liverpool haven't tasted defeat in the league since being humbled by Spurs in October.

And Carragher believes the club are in a good position.

"I think the brilliant thing for Liverpool is that it's Jurgen Klopp's second full season in English football," he said.

"January was a bit of a nightmare for Liverpool last season because of injuries, a loss of form and Sadio Mane going away.

"But this year he is rotating it much more - he's changing five or six players each game.

"That's not easy to get it right and it leaves you open to massive criticism.

"He's getting it right now - changing players at the right time.

"He's got a bench now which looks like a bench a top club should have - he didn't have that last season.

"Hopefully you'll see Liverpool get through this period."

Antoine Griezmann prediction

07:00: Liverpool need to be challenging for the Premier League if they want to sign Antoine Griezmann.

That is according to La Liga expert Guillem Balague.

Manchester United tried to sign Griezmann last summer, but he ended up committing his long-term future to Atletico Madrid.

While Jurgen Klopp will no doubt further look to strengthen over the next two windows, Balague is convinced Griezmann won’t be targeted.

“Griezmann is thinking of different things,” Balague told Sky Sports.

“Liverpool have to prove they are genuine title contenders again to be able to attract the likes of Griezmann.”

Emre Can Juventus blessing

06:30: Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero claims he would like to see his old club sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

As of yet, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations over a new deal for the German.

The 23-year-old will be allowed to talk to foreign clubs in January and sign a pre-contract, and he has been linked with a move to Juve.

And when asked about whether a deal is feasible for Can, Del Piero said: “Maybe Juve can close a deal in January.

“They need someone like him. He has great physical strength, and would be a great fit alongside Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic in the centre of the pitch."

Jamie Carragher trolls Everton

06:00: Jamie Carragher gave a brutal reaction to Liverpool’s FA Cup draw.

Liverpool will face Everton in the third round of the competition.

The Merseyside rivals face off this weekend in the Premier League, but will now face each other in the FA Cup too.

And Carragher seemed quite pleased with the draw.

“Delighted! We can f*** EFC’s Xmas & New Year up!,” he tweeted.

Daniel Sturridge shock move

05:30: Daniel Sturridge could reportedly swap Liverpool for Sevilla.

Sturbridge has fallen out of favour under Jurgen Klopp.

And according to Spanish publication El Gol, Sevilla could lure him from Anfield.

A deal could see Stoke star Steven N’Zonzi used in a cash plus player deal.
