Rafael Nadal plays tennis against HIMSELF in virtual reality game - video

RAFAEL NADAL took centre stage this afternoon as he tested his skills against himself.

Having battled all season against injuries, Roger Federer, and the rest of the tennis pros, Nadal saved his biggest test to last… a match against the world No1.

Spanish telecommunications company Movistar, owned by Telefonica, have teamed up with the tennis legend to create VR Movistar Nadal.

From December 1 to 12, the Gran Flamenco Store in Madrid will be dedicated to Nadal with a series of innovative experiences and interactive activities on show.

Fans have the chance to visit the exclusive selection of Rafa Nadal Museum Xperience pieces and play  VR Movistar Nadal, a virtual reality game with which they can train and take part in the Rafa Nadal Challenge.

And at one of the launch events, Nadal got to experience what it’s like to play against the ‘King of Clay’.

With a crowd watching on, Nadal donned a virtual reality headset and began hitting against himself.

With fans able to see his every move on the screen in front of them, they watched the 31-year-old hit several backhand shots.

The Spaniard appeared to be taking things gently though, with his hitting speed well off the normal ferociousness he displays on the court.

Nadal ends 2017 as world number one after the 16-time Grand Slam champion enjoyed a remarkable season with victory in the US Open and French Open.

Nadal is the oldest player to finish a campaign at world number one since they were introduced in 1973.
