After the state government’s move to give extension to non- Director General rank officer Ram Krishna Chaturvedi failed to materlise, the officer was made the first amongst Indian Police Services cadre to be appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) with the rank equivalent to an IG.
Interestingly, many officers of Indian Administrative Services (IAS) cadre got reappointment as OSD from where they retired but Chaturvedi will be the first IPS officer to be feted with the post of an OSD.
An IPS officer of 1998 Uttar Pradesh cadre, Ram Krishna Chaturvedi was posted as IG (Intelligence) before retiring on November 30. But the state government decided to get him a three-month extension just like DGP Sulkhan Singh. The latter retired on September 30 but wilth the extension will don the khaki till December 31.
In Chaturvedi’s case, when the government failed to get an extension, they issued an order on November 30 appointing the IG to a temporary post of OSD for three months. With this, Chaturvedi will now retire on February 28 next year, that is if the government did not extend it further.
Earlier amongst police officers, Deputy SP Padam Singh, then security officer of former Chief Minister Mayawati was re-appointed as OSD by the government.
